{"id":3282,"date":"2020-10-02T15:39:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T13:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cospe.publifarm.com\/non-categorizzato\/via-de-amicis-langolo-che-riqualifica-il-palazzo-2\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T09:32:59","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T07:32:59","slug":"post-covid-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cospe.publifarm.com\/en\/news-en\/post-covid-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"The 26 &#8220;Giants&#8221; (19 from Lombardy) of private construction: profits and post-Covid recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Source<\/strong>: <em>Sole 24 Ore<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong><em>Guffanti: &#8220;We\u2019re Seeing optimism, many companies are operating at full capacity&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The surprise came in the words of <strong>Luca Guffanti<\/strong>, President of <strong>Ance Lombardia<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom our local chapter presidents across Lombardy, I\u2019m hearing a certain degree of optimism\u2014with many member companies currently running at full production.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Post-Covid recovery signals brought a sense of renewed energy to an <strong>Ance seminar<\/strong> focused on the <strong>2019 financial statements<\/strong> of key players in private-sector construction\u2014data compiled before the pandemic hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study, conducted by <strong>Aldo Norsa<\/strong>, analysed financial statements of the <strong>top 50 construction companies<\/strong> involved in both public and private sectors, as well as <strong>26 companies<\/strong> operating exclusively in the private sector. The findings were striking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For the 50 mixed-sector companies, turnover rose by 7.7%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the 26 private-sector-only companies, turnover surged by 31.2%.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>EBITDA for this group rose by <strong>32.6%<\/strong>, EBIT by <strong>6.9%<\/strong>, and <strong>net profit<\/strong> by a remarkable <strong>76.2%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial debt dropped by <strong>30%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, <strong>business was booming before Covid<\/strong>\u2014and now, many industry voices are confident that this solid foundation will weather the storm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who are these thriving companies? It\u2019s clear that the <strong>\u201cMilan model\u201d<\/strong> is leading the way: <strong>19 out of 50<\/strong> are based in <strong>Lombardy<\/strong>, followed by <strong>9 from Emilia-Romagna<\/strong> and <strong>8 from Veneto<\/strong>, making this largely a <strong>Northern Italian phenomenon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the standout names include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Techbau<\/strong> (\u20ac310.3 million), focused on logistics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Colombo Costruzioni<\/strong> (\u20ac198 million), a long-time leader in private sector work, known for its commitment to quality and solidarity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Impresa Percassi<\/strong> (\u20ac190 million, including revenues from Mangiavacchi Pedercini)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gilardi<\/strong> (\u20ac86.8 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Setten Genesio (\u20ac80 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CDS<\/strong> (\u20ac73.2 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CEV<\/strong> (\u20ac57.3 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Borio Mangiarotti (\u20ac52.9 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Edile<\/strong> (\u20ac51.8 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grassi &amp; Crespi (\u20ac47.1 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Albini e Castelli (\u20ac45.8 million)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>COSPE<\/strong> (\u20ac45 million)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While the seminar struck a hopeful tone about the future, it also highlighted <strong>challenges and opportunities<\/strong> that lie ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Regina De Albertis<\/strong> pointed to <strong>Borio Mangiarotti<\/strong>\u2019s decision to move away from subcontracting and focus instead on <strong>property development<\/strong> to increase margins\u2014an approach echoed by many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was also wide agreement on the need to address ongoing <strong>tensions between construction firms and real estate developers<\/strong>, especially concerning pricing and project delays. <strong>Luigi Colombo<\/strong> called for a <strong>general framework agreement<\/strong> to guide relationships in this transitional phase (e.g., protocols for pausing worksites).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Francesco Percassi<\/strong> added that the time is ripe for industry <strong>consolidation<\/strong>, and urged greater attention to the broader <strong>supply chain<\/strong>, which affects <strong>30 related sectors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barbara Carron<\/strong> emphasised the need to address <strong>financial fragility<\/strong> and <strong>managerial shortcomings<\/strong> in order to support growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, <strong>Carlo Zini<\/strong> (CMB and Legacoop) offered a more cautious view, particularly in response to political promises, including those tied to the <strong>Recovery Plan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to make use of the MES,\u201d he said. \u201cThe construction sector will grow only if <strong>the entire economy grows<\/strong>, and <strong>if building sites are opened<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014G.Sa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Sole 24 Ore Guffanti: &#8220;We\u2019re Seeing optimism, many companies are operating at full capacity&#8221;
