This is the new <strong>Italtrans logistics hub<\/strong> in <strong>Nichelino<\/strong>, on the outskirts of Turin.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Covering <strong>12,000 square metres<\/strong>, the facility\u2014operated by Italtrans subsidiary <strong>Mazzocco<\/strong>\u2014is dedicated to the <strong>food sector<\/strong>, offering both <strong>temperature-controlled<\/strong> areas and <strong>cold chain storage<\/strong> for frozen goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe go where our clients\u2019 needs take us,\u201d explains <strong>Paola Bellina<\/strong>, head of Italtrans&#8217; e-commerce division. \u201cWhether it\u2019s Lallio, the Lazio region, Tuscany, or\u2014as in this case\u2014Piedmont. There was a need for a location with strong logistics and road connections, ideally placed to serve central Turin and facilitate home deliveries. Nichelino was the perfect choice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new hub responds to the significant growth of Italtrans\u2019 <strong>e-commerce services<\/strong> over the past year. The <strong>Calcinate-based<\/strong> group\u2014specialised in end-to-end logistics (management, warehousing, transport, and distribution for large-scale retailers and home delivery across all product sectors)\u2014reported a <strong>\u20ac290 million turnover in 2019<\/strong>. In 2020, its e-commerce services grew by <strong>120%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the health crisis, home delivery has grown exponentially,\u201d Bellina adds. \u201cThe Turin opening would likely have happened regardless\u2014just as it did in Rome back in May 2018\u2014but the urgency of the situation in recent months accelerated everything. The new hub had to be built quickly\u2014and it was.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nichelino facility, now fully operational, is also <strong>entirely \u201cMade in Bergamo\u201d<\/strong>. Italtrans entrusted the construction to long-time partner <strong>Cospe<\/strong>, the <strong>San Paolo d\u2019Argon-based<\/strong> construction company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe found the site in April 2020,\u201d explains <strong>Alberto Pezzotta<\/strong>, Cospe\u2019s owner. \u201cAfter securing the land, submitting plans, and working with the local authorities\u2014supported by the firm <em>Domus Ing&amp;Arch<\/em> in Seriate\u2014we obtained the building permit on <strong>14 August<\/strong>. By <strong>10 December<\/strong>, the building was delivered. Just <strong>four months<\/strong>\u2014a record.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With travel restrictions in place throughout 2020, <strong>e-commerce and home delivery became essential services<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\u201cIn addition to uninterrupted supply to major retailers during the hardest months,\u201d says <strong>Matteo Testa<\/strong>, Italtrans\u2019 HR Director, \u201cwe never stopped delivering to homes. We were among the few companies authorised, even in the early lockdown phase, to enter <strong>Codogno<\/strong> to deliver groceries. That made us incredibly proud. But it was only possible thanks to the strong sense of responsibility shown by our workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At present, the Nichelino site employs <strong>25 drivers<\/strong>, with plans to double that number in the coming months. In <strong>November<\/strong>, Italtrans launched a recruitment drive to hire new <strong>home delivery professionals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs always,\u201d Testa concludes, \u201cwe\u2019re working in <strong>close collaboration with local institutions<\/strong>, which have been particularly responsive and supportive\u2014helping us meet both logistical and employment needs.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: L&#8217;Eco di Bergamo Built and launched in record time\u2014just four months.
